Plans for bicentennial commemorative license plates for the state of Kentucky, featuring a likeness of Daniel Boone, have expired for lack of money. The plates would have been optional, costing drivers an extra $2.50, used to pay for their cost and the cost of the bicentennial celebration, but the legislature and governor could not agree on provisions. A descendent of Boone, George Street Boone, was quoted as saying "we were hopeful, but there are many complications when working with a large bureaucracy." LEXINGTON HERALD-LEADER, 4/8/1991.
