DB considered an agent of RHENDERSON by Theodore Roosevelt in THE WINNING OF THE WEST -- "On the expeditions of which this [1760] is the earliest record, he, Daniel Boone, was partly hunting on his own account and partly exploring on behalf of another, Richard Henderson." Also by John Haywood in HISTORY OF TENNESSEE -- DB joined the Blevens party of hunters in 1764 and made inquiries of them in order "to be informed of the geography and locography of these woods, saying that he was employed to explore them for Henderson & Co." A. W. Putnam, THE HISTORY OF MIDDLE TENNESSEE -- in 1769 "Daniel Boone and others had been employed by Col. Richard Henderson to examine the same country [the headwaters of the Tennessee River]; they had passsed beyond the mountains, and discovered the rich lands upon the Cumberland and Kentucky Rivers, and the extensive barrens or open lands in Kentucky." "Following the lease for ten years by the Watauga settlers of a section of land to the west of the boundary line, effected through negotiations with the Cherokees, Daniel Boone learned from James Robertson and other Watauga leaders that at last the Cherokees were willing, for a sufficiently large consideration, to sell their lands to the west of the boundary line. Boone, who for many years had acted as Judge Henderson's confidential agent, now informed him that the Indians were ready to sell. . . . In February, 1775, Judge Henderson dispatched Daniel Boone and other runners through the Cherokee country, summoning the entire tribe of Cherokees to assemble at the Sycamore Shoals of the Watauga River in March."
