Jouett Taylor Cannon, Kentucky Historical Society, to Ludie J. Kinkead, Filson Club, 12/16/1927; re the discovery of letters negotiating with Nathan Boone about the removal of DB's body to Kentucky, and what should be paid for them. <I have looked carefully through all these papers to see whether any apropriation was made by the State of Kentucky for the removal of Boone's remains from Missouri, and nowhere do I find even a reference to it. Mention is made of the fact that the Cemetery Company had bought the land for $4000 and would spend $5000 on improving it. I am now convinced that the Company bore all the expense, or possibly the expense might have been born by individual persons, but I believe the only appropriation made by the State was for the erection of the monument (in 1865 I believe) and its restoration about twenty years ago.> Daniel Boone Collection, Manuscripts, Filson Club, Louisville.
