When DB moved upriver he settled a few miles above the mouth of Elk River, opposite the mouth of Campbell's Creek where the first sald spring was discovered, now in "Kanawha City." This spring brought to it many animals. His house was a double, two-storied, loghouse, with passway between the two front rooms, and a porch in front. W. S. Laidley, "Daniel Boone in the Kanawha Valley," REGISTER OF THE KENTUCKY HISTORICAL SOCIETY 2/32 (1913):9-12.

During the quartermaster episode: Did not "harmonize well" with Captain Caperton. Boone picked up his hat and left camp during the scout of 1793; gone for several days without consulting anyone. One of the scouts ran across him down on the Ohio River and told him they were out of rations and asked for explanations. He told them that "Captain Caperton did not do to his liking."
