<TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN: Concerning historial data of Daniel Boone's residence in Beaver Creek and Elk Townships, Wilkes County, North Carolina, I, T. W. Ferguson, am making the following affidavit: That I was born in Beaver Creek township, Wilkes County, NC in the year 1888; I am the son of Lindsay C. Ferguson, born 1832, the nephew of Jesse T. Ferguson, Born 1836 and the Grandson of John F. Ferguson, born 1797, all of whom were born and reared in the same township. That I have frequently heard my father and uncle say they had seen many older residents who had seen and talked with Daniel Boone and members of his family; that they had also heard their father say he had known and talked with many residents who had been neighbors to Boone while living here in this portion of North Carolina, and that Boone was a resident for several years in both Beaver Creek and Elk townships while pioneering in this part of the State. That Boone had a residence in Beaver Creek township on the east side of Beaver Creek and about three quarters of a mile from its mouth, evidences of which are still in tact; that the Spring from which the family got water near by is still in tack and known as the Daniel Boone Spring. That Boone also had a cabin in Elk Township on the north side of the Yadkin River on a hill overlooking the confluence of Beaver Creek and the Yadkin River; that evidences of the old chimney and hearth stones are still in tact; that I have seen these evidences myself and have been told by my father and uncle and they in turn by their father and other residents that these were the exact locations of Boone's residences during his sojourn in this part of the State. <That I have been told authentically that a lady by the name of Dianna Triplett, who was a small girl at the time, that she and her mother visited Boone's family frequently and that on one of these visits, while Boone was away in Kentucky, that she borrowed one of Boone's hunting knives to cut reeds from the Creek Bank wna in the act cut her leg, the scar from which she carried to her grave; that many of the older residents told my father and uncle they had seen this scar and knew the event to be true. <Subscribed and sworn to by me this __ day of Jan. 1952, [signed] T. W. Ferguson> George H. Maurice, DANIEL BOONE IN NORTH CAROLINA (Eagle Springs, NC: Privately Printed, 1959):29-31

DB organized another remove to KY when he was in NC to fetch Rebecca and the family. John Vawter, Morganton IN to LCD, 6/20/1854: <Our good old Baptist sister Phoebe (Van Cleve) Harris told him that she remembers crossing the Big Yadkin, James, and New River. There were upwards of one hundred in the party. They had a swivel. Boone and his party set out 20th day of September 1779. Her party landed at Bryants Station at night November 15, 1779. The whole of Boone's party arrived at Boonesborough on the previous day. She cannot say wat detained Colonel Boone in North Carolina one year after his return home and after his captivity. He frequently visited her father in the time, but supposed it was to raise a strong imigration [sic] party. She says Squire Boone's wife (Jane) was own sister to her father William Van Cleve. They were not disturbed by Inaidns on the way to Boonesborough. It was the most delightful fall she had ever seen. Her sister Sally Van Cleve and aunt Molly Van Cleve and two children were slain.> 12C193, quoted in George H. The route from "mouth of Beaver": up the Yadkin to the mouth of Elk Creek; up that stream to the present village of Derby; crossing the Blue Ridge at Bamboo; down the north slope of the Blue Ridge to Three Forks of the New River; through present town of Boone; Hodges Gap; Straddle Gap; Zionville; Trade. The DAR placed markers on this trail; at one time most were visible from the road, "but the modern straightened highways have passed them by." [We saw one on Tennessee 91 over Iron Mountain; effigy of Boone seated with dog on tablet of metal taken from the Battleship Maine. The marker itself formed from stone in the shape of an Indian arrowhead.] George H. Maurice, DANIEL BOONE IN NORTH CAROLINA (Eagle Springs, NC: Privately Printed, 1959):19-20

The cabin at Holman's Ford was about 7.5 miles above present Wilkesboro: it was a temporary shell of logs, the remains of which could still be seen at the foot of the hills, according to Thwaites, as late as 1900. A bridge now spans the Yadkin at the ford. George H. Maurice, DANIEL BOONE IN NORTH CAROLINA (Eagle Springs, NC: Privately Printed, 1959):14

The two Boone cabins near Beaver Creek on the Yadkin: one along the creek, the other across the Yadkin, "at the mouth of Beaver," on a hill overlooking the river. [These are marked by a marker on NC 268 near the town of Ferguson, put up by the Woodmen of the World; we saw on 3/13/1991.] He saw the remains of these cabins in the early twentieth century. George H. Maurice, DANIEL BOONE IN NORTH CAROLINA (Eagle Springs, NC: Privately Printed, 1959):14,15,17,21.

Henderson was not able to follow up on Boone's information about Kentucky until after "the expiration of the court in 1773." Does this mean the expiration of his term on the bench? An interesting idea. George H. Maurice, DANIEL BOONE IN NORTH CAROLINA (Eagle Springs, NC: Privately Printed, 1959):18
