<My father was on his way up the Femme Osage Creek to visit his stepfather, Jonathan Bryan, with me riding behind him on horseback. As we were passing in front of Nathan Boone's house, Daniel Boone came out and asked father to come and see his new coffin. We went in and Daniel Boone led the way upstairs and into the west room, took the lid off the coffin, pulled the cotton out on the floor and lay down in the coffin to show how well it fit him. It was made of wild cherry.> Letter of A. J. Coshow to THE REPUBLIC, marked 1894, in Misc. Clippings, MHS
