Traveling down the Ohio River, near the Kentucky boundry: <Judge [Jesse] Boon has a good house on the left about three miles further down, opposite to which on the Ohio side is the beginning of French Grant.> Jesse was inspector of salt-works for Virginia and justice of the county court for Greenup County, KY. Judge John Coburn was a Philadelphian who cema to Kentucky in 1784, living at Lexington until 1794 when he removed to Mason County and became judge of its court. He was a prominent Democrat, and accepted the position as territorial judge for Orleans, sittinh at St. Louis. He was an ardent friend of DB, assisting him in obtaining his land grant. He also served as commissioner to run the boundry between KY and VA in 1796. Died in 1823. Twaites in EARLY WESTERN TRAVELS, 4:169n.
