When DB died on 9/26/1820 the first state legislature of MO was in session in St. Louis. Word of his death reach the city on 9/28, and that day Senator Benjamin Emmons of St. Charles introduced in the Senate this resolution: <That the Senate and House of Representatives of the State of Missouri, do as evidence of their distinguished respect for the memory of Col. Daniel Boon [sic] deceased, agree to wear crape on the left arm for the space of twenty days from this date.> The resolution was unanimously adopted by both House and Senate. On 10/6/1820 Rep. Daniel Monroe of Howard county presented a petition from "sundry inhabitants residing in the east part of Howard county" praying that a new county be formed. Five days later a county bill was introduced and on 10/28/1820 a bill dividing Howard county into several new ones passed the House; it included Boone county. SHOEMAKER:212-14
