Whistler informs Larned that a Potawatomy chief has been <lurking about for several days at this place [Fort Wayne]>. This chief did not attend the Treaty of Greenville which took place the summer before, and his village is near <Moran one of our greatest enemies>. The chief wanted to stay low-profile during his stay at Fort Wayne and hunt for his family. The chief knew that there was a group of Indians from Moran heading to Michillimackinac the previous autumn and that there was a pan-Michigan Indian pact between the Ojibwes (Chippewas) and several other Indian nations.
