This is a letter to the secretary of war from someone from the Michigan territory. The writer of this letter starts off by talking about a heist and a murder of a white male that has occurred near Lake Count Orielle. This located a little south of Lake Superior. The writer goes onto talk about how the suspects were Indians and how 5 have been captured and charged by the US. He says that they have evidence to support the case for a murder and the heist. At the time, there are still 3 missing Indians, who are making their way down through Indian Territory. The writer speaks on how the white people in that area are in danger because of these Indians. The writers idea is to have the US send troops from Fort Anthony and Fort Howard to track down these Indians and put them on trial. He wants to see them pay for what they have done.
This letter is very interesting because it comes at a time were the US is looking to expand into Indian Territory. This is definitely something that the government would jump on to try to accuse the Indians of any crime in anyway. Asking for troops to take down a few murders also seems a little excessive.
