McCloskey is writing to Cass because there was a <"Public mare"> that was stolen, later found and returned by an officer of the 5th Infantry, then stolen again by an Indian Interpreter <"J.B. Desnoyer">, who sold it to another interpreter <"Peninchan">. McCloskey says that <"you would confer a particular favour on me by making some inquiry of Desnoyer and Peninchan">
