The beginning of this letter starts off with Mr. Durochin talking about how they have made their way past a river that I cannot read the name to the Lake du Flambeu where they arrived on May 21. They met with a council of Indians of the tribe that controls the lake the following day. They were able to discuss their plan with the Indians in the meeting. The Indians did not agree at first and came back with their own in terms. The treaty of Fond Du Lac was brought because it seems that the Indians want terms that are closer to that treaty.

The group of Indians had argued that they deserve better treatment because they delivered some murders to the United States military. It seems that some of the Indians have been committing crimes themselves to people who go on their land. The man negotiating with the Indians want them to come back with them and be judged but the Indians seeing it as a way of their life. The Indians would not give up their own people so they would not sign the treaty and the Americans were not happy about it at the time.

The Mr. Durochin denied that offer and said that the Unted States would only do a deal if they got the criminals. They created some new terms and agreed on a three day window for the Indians to give thier answers to the US men. As the letter continues, the men are giving the Indians their time but they have not heard about anything in the last four days. At the end, it seems that the US never get the Treaty done and they have to move on and return home because the Indians will not do the deal with the current terms.

This letter is extremly important because it talks about direct communication between US men and the tribes around Michigan. It details interactions that the men have with the tribe and how they try to negotiate with them. These men are on a mission but the Indians do not seem to be very afraid of the Americans so they do not expect the terms. There is a lot to take away about tribes from the Michigan territory and how they handled the Americans.
