Roll19_33 from July 9, 1826 from Unknown to Lewis Goffs
|This is not a very long letter but it describes what seems to be a debt paid to a part of the goverment. The total sum that he been paid is $10,332. The ending is difficult to read but the words Indian Agency can be made out. The agency was taking in a lot of money at this from the government. it seems that the US was very invested to get the Indians out of this land as quickly as possible. |
After going through a number of these letters, Governor Gofs has a ton of letters detailing money transfers from the government to the agency. They must have been spending quite a lot on getting these tribes out.
