The House of Representatives sent this memo out calling for a <"resolution... for the removal of the Miamis">. This gave the settlers power to push the Miami Tribe off of their land. During this timer period, westward expansion was a big theme in the American government. This is a primary reason why there was such a strong push to colonize land further west. Unfortunately for tribes like Miami, they were more or less forced to give up their land to the settlers who were wealthier and more powerful than them.

During this time period, the American government believed that they were as strong nation. As a result of this, they were not afraid to push those who were not as strong, such as the Miami Tribe, off of their land. The government believed in westward expansion, which caused the Miamis to be continuously pushed west. In addition, the government was under the assumption that this would be a <"good deal"> for all Native American tribes. This was clearly not the case due to the fact that annuities were not large amounts of money and the land farther west was less bountiful. Finally, the American government had negative views on native Americans and did not want them to be part of their community due to the belief that they were uncivilized.
