Dowling complains of the behavior of the Miamies during the removal process. He mentions how they drink to help with the removal process, and how this makes things difficult for him. Also, during a council meeting agent Hamilton gave a speech to the Miamies discussing the removal. The speech reflected government wishes, and stressed the importance of a prompt removal.
In the spring of 2019, Dr. Cameron Shriver’s “Intro to the Miami Tribe” students researched the records of the Superintendent of Indian Affairs in the Michigan District (which included the Miami Tribe in northern Indiana) and files of the Office of Indian Affairs related to Miami Removal to west of the Mississippi River in 1846.
