Rolette is writing back to Medill notifying him that he received Medill letter. Medill is the Commissioner of Indian Affairs, and has appointed Medill as <"Superintendent of the Organization of the Miamis">. As the superintendent, he is in charge of giving annuities to the tribe as well as removing them from the Fort Wayne area.

The fact that Medill appointed someone to organize the Miami Tribe in the Fort Wayne area proves that there was a large concentration of Miamis there in the early spring of 1846. This speaks to the strength and size of the Miami tribe during this time period. Unfortunately, this is likely the strongest the tribe got due to removal and fracturing.
