A man named James Williams, who lives <"within twelve miles of Maldon"> reportedly tried to bribe Captain Drake with $1000.00 in cash and five square miles of land in upper Canada to get him to use his influence to shut down the contemplated Indian Treaty. Drake refused this offer. Butler reveals that Williams was joined by two Otawa Indians, and appears to be a man of <"good address and information">. He is most likely <"among the Indians">. Butler wants trusted people who are familiar with the Indians to watch if they have threats from Canada.
