Cass says that Jouett will have assistance by General Macomb for his project he wanted to start in Chicago. Cass gives permission for Jouett to decide whether to hire Kingie as an interpreter (as long as he has abandoned <"the Indian trade">. Cass says to follow the lead of the Commanding Officer of Chicago with regards to providing provisions. He says that Congress has allocated very small funds to the Indian Department (200k) and War Department (45k), which must be split between Mackinaw, Green Bay, Chicago, Fort Wayne, and Pledpia*. Also, 6k were already spent by Mr. McKenney, so only 39k remain for distribution.
