John Shane notes of George Bryan interview, Bourbon county KY, ca 1844: One of the rescuers John McMillen [or McMullen], who was a cabiner, met by the rescue party, joined up. He <had hair so long, he co'd sit on it, and wrap it around his legs.> Later in the year he returned to the Clinch. <He had there stopped to get some clothes. While he tarried, the indns: came in & did some mischief, & McM. joined in the pursuit, and was shot by one "Black-head-patridge," a Cherokee, who had made a blind of bushes, and ambuscaded the party of whites, on their return from the pursuit.> 22C16[14]
